FAQs for Practice Owners and Vets

Answers to common questions from vets and practice owners about how VIMOS works, what we provide, and how we integrate with your team—covering equipment, reporting, collaboration, procedures, costs, and more.

We deliver in-practice ultrasound (abdominal, thoracic, musculoskeletal, etc.), guided procedures (e.g. FNAs, biopsies), radiology, CT and MRI  reporting, and specialist input in internal medicine, oncology, and surgery.

VIMOS currently serves small-animal practices across Hampshire and West Surrey, with a regular visit to IslandVetCare on the Isle of Wight. By focusing on this area, we’re able to offer a responsive, personal service—same-week visits, fast 24-hour reporting, and direct collaboration with your clinical team.

If your practice is just outside our current zone, we’d still love to hear from you. We often review expansion opportunities and run a waiting list for nearby clinics.

We’re also happy to support practices across the UK with remote reporting for CT and MRI scans. Just get in touch and we’ll talk through how we can help.

Yes, we will bring our own portable ultrasound machine. Furthermore, we will bring material such as needles, slides, trucut, ultrasound gel, clipper and others.

We will have a chat with the vet in charge on the day that we do the scan. Then we will send you a full report, including images of the ultrasound the same day.

This would be up to the vet in charge of the case. If you want, we can discussed results with the owner, however some vets would rather to discussed the results of the scan and the plan further after discussing the results with us.

Absolutely. Our goal is to empower your vets through collaboration, not replacement. We offer case support, shared diagnostics, and even practical CPD sessions in your clinic.

We invoice the clinic, and you retain control over how services are priced for your clients. Our goal is to support your pricing structure, not dictate it.

Yes. We’re always available to discuss clinical cases before you book. We view ourselves as an extension of your clinical team—not just a service provider.

In most cases, yes. Ultrasound involves applying pressure to certain organs, which can cause discomfort. Light sedation helps relax nervous or painful patients and allows for a more complete and stress-free examination. In some cases, general anesthesia would also be required and in other cases, like really critical patients, would not need sedation or anesthesia for the scan. Please contact us to give you advice and discuss each individual case

By keeping complex cases in-house, you retain revenue and reduce client drop-off from referrals. Our model also avoids the upfront cost of specialist equipment or full-time hires.

Yes. We ask that a veterinary nurse be available to help with the patient and/or to monitor sedation or anaesthesia if required.

Yes, we offer weekend appointments. Availability may vary, so please get in touch to discuss specific dates.

Yes. We perform ultrasound-guided core biopsies (e.g. liver) when clinically appropriate.
While the procedure is minimally invasive, there is a small risk of bleeding. We recommend pre-procedure checks (haematocrit, platelets, PT/APTT), and patients should remain under observation in-clinic for at least 3 hours post-procedure. Our team is happy to discuss individual cases in advance.

Yes, ideally. However, do not delay urgent cases simply because the patient has eaten. Patient care always takes precedence. If you’re unsure, we’re happy to advise.

Please let us know in advance if the patient is receiving chemotherapy or may present a zoonotic risk, so we can take appropriate precautions.

Our full price list is available to clinics and includes all services. You can also refer to the Pricing (MRI & CT & Ultrasound) section of our website or – for access – email us directly: info@vimos.vet.
